Are You Storm-Ready This Season?

Along with the fun and sun of summer comes another, perhaps less-welcome annual event — the onset of hurricane season along the Atlantic coast, a six-month period lasting from June 1st-November 30th during which the potential for the development of hurricanes (defined as storms with wind speeds of anywhere from 74 mph (Category 1) up to 156 mph or more (Category 5)) is at its height. This year, AccuWeather forecasters are predicting the development of eight named tropical storms, four hurricanes, and one major hurricane for the Atlantic Basin, with 2-3 of these systems expected to make landfall somewhere in the U.S.

Whatever the number of systems experienced in any given year, “it only takes one storm to cause a lot of destruction,” AccuWeather Meterologist Dan Kottlowski confirmed. Esposito’s Generator Consultant John Lestarchick agreed, noting that “it’s extremely unlikely that we wouldn’t experience some effects of a Category 1 hurricane this season, but the fact is that there doesn’t need to be a hurricane to create a power outage within New Jersey’s vulnerable electric grid.”

According to Lestarchick, the purchase, installation, and proper maintenance of a quality generator stands as a home or businesses’ ultimate protection against whatever weather events or power disruptions Mother Nature or utility companies may present. “At Esposito’s, our successful and proven process begins with a thorough evaluation of your design and install challenges plus a detailed electrical evaluation to ensure the generator installation meets your emergency power needs and budget,” Lestarchick said. “We offer everything from manual transfer panel installations for a portable generator starting at around $3,000 to standby power solutions from industry leaders Generac and Kohler, who both offer superior units at competitive prices, as well as specialized diesel-powered generators for those customers who use diesel as their fuel source.”

“In addition to getting the installation done right every time, we’ll also maintain your generator to ensure its reliable operation and your peace of mind,” he added, noting that during Hurricane Sandy, “we had zero generator customers who were without power for any significant length of time.” As part of their turn-key process, customers can also rely on Esposito’s Generator Solutions division to monitor generator operation status and expertly address such challenges as low gas pressure and township zoning restrictions so that you’re assured of a reliable system that’s in full compliance with local codes.

“Years back, the installation of a generator was a luxury, but now it’s a necessity for a homeowner and a capital improvement that will increase the value of your home,” Lestarchick confirmed. Instead of being likened to ‘insurance,’ he said, “it’s really ‘assurance’ in that it prevents loss and our customers say it’s the best investment they ever made.”
